International Beethoven Project the Maestro's 250th birthday will be in 2020.
he remains one of the most recognised and influential of all composers. His best-known compositions include 9 symphonies; 5 piano concertos; 1 violin concerto; 32 piano sonatas; 16 string quartets; a mass, the Missa solemnis; and an opera, Fidelio. His career as a composer is conventionally divided into early, middle, and late periods; the "early" period is typically seen to last until 1802, the "middle" period from 1802 to 1812, and the "late" period from 1812 to his death in 1827.

Frances Carroll & 'The Coquettes'. On Tuesday 12 June 2018, at 9.49pm, by pure chance I saw a clip on Turner Classic Movies of a musical group I had no idea existed (not this particular clip, but this one gives a good flavor of it). See Vitaphone 1940 release B220.

El Cant dels Ocells - Tsugaru Shamisen - Yoshida Brothers In December 2018 I saw this video on NHK Blends, a five minute program on the Japanese channel I am lucky enough to get on an otherwise barren cable television offering. It is the cover of a piece identified with Pablo Casals. It is a fascinating rendition of a cello piece often performed by Maestro Casals. It is a traditional Catalan Christmas song.
